@phreatophile - can you give more details, such as previous version before updating?I was using 3.2 I did have a mod that altered geralt_skills.xml witch I disabled.did not solve I tried a fresh install of the game and patches in order.did not solve To reiterate problem, after installing patch 3.3 but never before and with no other changes, I can no longer access the character screen(not by pressing c or from meditation to level up). The screen goes dark though I still have a cursor, music and ambient sound still plays and a forced closure from the task manager is requred to regain control of PC. After forced closure 'Changelist: 1 is not responding' appears. Edit: Starting a brand new game doesn't fix either. Further edit: Now I feel like an Idiot, had an old vesion of Unlock All Development Paths active.

Patch 3.3 is modification for the PC version of The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition. The mod adds the following enhancements to the game. It can be used optionally (enabled by default) by players when installed. You can disable it in Configurator DLC Menu.
The game will be automatically updated to 3.3 via the game launcher. In case of problems with the auto-patching system, download the update by clicking the button below and apply it manually.
The Witcher 2 needs to be updated at least to 3.2 for the patch 3.3 to work correctly. Do NOT apply the patch if your game is older than 3.2.
Patch 3.3 changes (21st February 2013) Patch 3. The Software Licensing System Reset Tool Package Design more. 3 adds modifications to Aard and Quen. The modifications are applied when a relevant shrine is found and used in game and they can be disabled in DLC settings in Options. It also adds auto-detection of the controller. • Activating a relevant shrine changes Quen into Solar Quen adding a 10% chance for an attacker to be incinerated when hitting Geralt. • Activating a relevant shrine changes Aard into Ice Aard adding a 20% chance of freezing opponents hit with the sign.
