Yes, you can remove the electronic lens and use a regular fixed shade glass lens with plastic saftey lens covers like a normal hood. You will need the wire bail to keep the fixed lens in place.
The electronic model doesn't come with the bail so you will need to buy that seperately if you want to run a fixed shade lens in your auto hood. I have the EQC Pro Variable which only has a 2x4 viewing area and I have not felt a need for a bigger viewing area and I use it for all types of welding, in-shop and mobile, in all positions, welding on all sorts of different apparatus. Been welding with this lens daily for about 6 years.

It is a nice light comfortable hood, though a bit flexy.
So far the flexyness hasn't caused a problem. Been using it 40 hrs a week for a couple months now welding metal framed buildings for a new school going in. I like the new hood. The Pro Variable only has 2 sensors, but there haven't been very many times I've flashed myself from blocking the sensors in all the thousands of welds I've made with these lenses and I have had to fit my head into some tight places to get to the weld. Would it be nice to have 2 more sensors? Do I need 2 more? The Pro Variable runs on two AAA batteries with no solar power. I bought rechargeable batteries and a charger and when one set goes dead, I swap them out for a fresh set and put the dead ones in the charger. Sometimes I don't have a fresh set of batteries with me out on the road, so then I break out the fixed lens hood to finish out the day and change the batteries when the day is done.
